Scores of crashes, none fatal, were reported Saturday on Minnesota roads made slick by daylong light snowfall, the State Patrol reported. One crash involved a patrol car that was hit by another vehicle.

Metro area police dispatchers reported dozens of vehicles in ditches or with fender benders, but few injuries.

Statewide, between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, there were 185 crashes, with 35 injuries -- one of them serious, according to Lt. Eric Roeske. Among those crashes, a squad car was hit. Roeske noted that trooper was not in the car, which was parked with its lights on at a crash scene on eastbound Interstate 94 at the Crow River Bridge. The car sustained minor damage.

"It's been pretty constant since the snow started," said dispatcher Bobbi Jones in the Washington County Sheriff's Office. "There's lots of accident with cars in the ditch or minor rollovers, but no injuries. The State Patrol has been responding to a lot of them."

The patrol's road conditions phone line reported injury accidents on I-35W near Columbus and on I-35E in Eagan.

Washington and Hennepin County dispatchers estimated that there had been more than a dozen accidents in each county. Bloomington reported that one driver hit a utility pole, and two vehicles collided and slid into a snowbank.

Four other metro counties reported minor crashes or vehicles sliding off roads with no serious injuries reported.

The National Weather Service office said snowfall was tapering off about 4 p.m. and that a half-inch to an inch was on the ground in the Twin Cities. One to 3 inches of accumulation were expected across southern Minnesota.
