This is the first time the Bloomington Kennedy chapter will send a team to the national community-service competition.

Last winter, Bloomington Kennedy's SkillsUSA student chapter raised more than $1,000 for the Harriet Tubman Family Alliance and the Cornerstone shelters as part of "Project Santa." The students also bought gifts for families at the centers. Cook said the chapter sought to raise awareness about domestic violence.

Other Bloomington Kennedy students who earned the chance to compete at the national conference include: Chris Aubitz, Cat Choy, Richard George, Tyler Larson and Pad Morgan in the quiz bowl competition; Michael Englehorn in computer maintenance technology; Allison Scherer in prepared speech; and Mark Boettcher as a delegate.
