School briefs: Young scientists, artists converge at annual fair

Stillwater will hold its annual Da Vinci Fest science and art fair next weekend.

More than 200 science projects and 160 pieces of art have been entered in the fair, which is sponsored by the Partnership Plan for Stillwater Area Public Schools with support from 3M.

The festival will be held at Stillwater Junior High School from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Visitors can meet the artists at an open house from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

North st. paul, maplewood, oakdale

North High School sponsors workshop on parenting North High School will host a parenting workshop Jan. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon. The workshop will feature sessions on parental mistakes, gender identity, mental health, cyber bullying and Internet safety. The workshop is free. Child care will be available for a fee.

Teachers recognized by state organization Two Stillwater Area Public School teachers were recognized as TIES Exceptional Teachers during the organization's Education Technology conference. Sara Damon, a ninth-grade geography teacher at Stillwater Junior High School, and Sharon Lovell, a fifth-grade teacher at Afton-Lakeland Elementary School, were among 79 teachers from 39 districts in the state who were recognized. TIES is an education technology consortium of 41 Minnesota school districts.

Damon and Lovell were nominated by Stillwater Superintendent Tom Nelson. The award recognizes teachers who model the best practices in using technology in their classroom.

Two East Ridge High seniors get AAA Award Two East Ridge High School seniors have been honored for their achievements in academics, fine arts and athletics.

Mitch Coutu and Amanda Maki were awarded with Minnesota State High School League's "AAA Award."

Coutu has participated in choir, track and field. and is a captain of the swimming team. He is on the honor roll, a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club. He also is an Eagle Scout.

Maki has participated in choir, theater, track and field and is a captain of the softball and tennis teams. She is on the honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society and Key Club.
