Imaginative castle walls surround the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds — a place filled with fairies, mermaids, knights, kings and revelers of all walks.

For the annual event, hundreds of performers and thousands of “playtrons” (patrons who dress the Renaissance part) transport attendees into the magical tales that first inspired the attraction 46 years ago.

Whether you come in your homemade best or rent your mythical garb on-site, the festival, which runs through Oct. 2, offers a fairy-tale fantasy for all ages.
