Swedish-inspired s’mores and hearty glogg were on the menu and bonfires and sparklers were on the docket for the winter solstice celebration at the American Swedish Institute in south Minneapolis. As many as 2,700 people gathered for the indoor/outdoor event, which included lighting the yule fire. Revelers couldn’t light their own torches from the yule fire to carry home, as some traditions dictate, but they did light sparklers to mark the return of the light.
