A man with a distinctive facial tattoo and wearing dark clothing is suspected of robbing a downtown Minneapolis bank on Wednesday morning, setting off a search by local authorities, according to police radio traffic.

The incident happened about 10:15 a.m. at the U.S. Bank branch in the skyway level of the IDS Center, at 80 S. 8th St., according to scanner reports.

Witnesses told police the suspect had a tattoo under his right eye, a brown winter beanie, black or navy jacket and "a lot of heavy clothing." He was estimated at 5 feet 10 inches tall, average weight with his hair in dreadlocks. It's unclear whether he was armed.

He left going to the street level on the escalator, and a witness said he was last seen boarding a 22B Metro Transit bus heading north on 7th Street.

A spokesman for the FBI, which investigates most bank robberies, said that he had no further information on the incident, when contacted on Wednesday morning.
