Scandia rallies to aid firefighter's family

A memorial fund has been established for John Larson, the 42-year-old Scandia Fire Department rescue captain who was killed as the result of a Feb. 28 car accident at the junction of Hwy. 36 and Manning Avenue N.

The John Larson Memorial fund has been set up at Security State Bank of Marine to assist his wife and three children. Anyone wishing to make a contribution can do so at any of the bank branches — in Scandia, Marine on St. Croix, Lindstrom or Forest Lake — or mail checks to Security State Bank of Marine, P.O. Box 56, Scandia, MN 55073.

Donations also will be accepted at the annual chicken dinner of the Scandia-Marine Lions Club to be held on April 27 at the fire hall in Scandia.

Larson's service with the volunteer fire department also will be honored at the April 16 meeting of the Scandia City Council, said Kristina Handt, city administrator.

The Lions Club and the U.S. Postal Service, his employer, will also make presentations.
