The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues this Saturday evening at ChicagolandSpeedway. Unfortunately, the race coincides with when thunderstorms will berolling across northeastern Illinois.A disturbance entering the Upper Midwest will spark the thunderstorms. Thethunderstorms will begin erupting over Chicago Saturday afternoon then willpersist into the evening.

Despite the presence of thunderstorms, only minor delays will likely ensue. Thethunderstorms should not entirely wash out the race, but they will instead bybrief and spotty. It is also possible that the stray thunderstorms may totallybypass the speedway.

The spotty nature of the thunderstorms should not make fans undermine thedanger of lightning. It only takes one lightning strike to cause injury ordeath. Remember, you are close enough to get struck by lightning if you hearthunder.
