Saturday's college hockey roundup: Minnesota State Mankato sweeps St. Cloud State

Clint Lewis and Parker Tuomie each scored two goals, Chandler Madry broke a tie for good in the second period and 14th-ranked Minnesota State Mankato beat No. 7 St. Cloud State 6-4 on Saturday night to sweep the nonconference men's hockey series.

The Mavericks (4-0) had lost seven consecutive games to the Huskies (0-2) before winning 4-1 Friday.

Madry's goal broke a 4-4 tie for the Mavericks 11 minutes, 4 seconds into the second period. Tuomie's second goal came 4:15 later and was Minnesota State's fourth goal of the period, as well as the final goal of the night.

Ryan Papa finished with a goal and an assist for St. Cloud State, which led 3-2 after one period.

Notre Dame 3, Minnesota Duluth 1: Jordan Gross and Dylan Malmquist scored 55 seconds apart early in the third period and the Irish (3-1) beat the host Bulldogs (3-1-2). Adam Johnson scored a second-period goal for UMD.

North Dakota 5, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 2: Joel Janatuinen scored a goal in each period for his first career hat trick, and the host and top-ranked Fighting Hawks (3-0) outshot the Engineers 38-14.

Ohio State 1, Miami (Ohio) 1: The Buckeyes (1-0-2) and host Redhawks (1-1-1) officially played to a tie, although Tanner Laczynski scored in a shootout for Ohio State.

Lake Superior State 7, Michigan State 3: The Lakers (2-0) scored four first-period goals and routed the Spartans (0-2) in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Michigan 2, Ferris State 1: Sam Piazza scored with 4:28 left and the Wolverines (2-1) beat the Bulldogs (0-5) in Big Rapids, Mich.

WCHA

Bemidji State 2, Northern Michigan 0: Jay Dickman and Kyle Bauman scored first-period goals and Michael Bitzer made 21 saves as the Beavers (4-0, 4-0 WCHA) beat the host Wildcats (1-3, 0-2).
