Saturday prep roundup: Wayzata tops Benilde in OT in girls' hockey

Emily Wisnewski scored 3 minutes, 24 seconds into overtime, giving Wayzata a 3-2 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret's in the Class 2A, Section 6 girls' hockey tournament quarterfinals Saturday.

Emily Wisnewski had scored only one goal since the first of the year. She picked a good time to double her output.

The sophomore defenseman scored 3 minutes, 24 seconds into overtime, giving Wayzata a 3-2 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret's in the Class 2A, Section 6 girls' hockey tournament quarterfinals Saturday afternoon at Parade Ice Garden. It was the Clarkson recruit's sixth goal of the season.

Benilde-St. Margaret's tied it at 2-2 on Grace Juckniess' goal midway through the third period. It was only the fourth goal of the season for the sophomore forward.

In other Section 6 quarterfinal games, Stella Haberman had two goals and two assists, leading Hopkins/St. Louis Park to a 7-2 victory over North Metro. ... Olivia Garrity had a hat trick and one assist in Class 2A, No. 9 Cretin-Derham Hall's 9-2 victory over Armstrong/Cooper.

Class 2A

Section 4/Quarterfinals: Morgan Helgeson scored two goals in the third period when Class 2A, No. 2 Hill-Murray pulled away from Irondale/St. Anthony for a 6-1 victory. The Pioneers scored the final six goals.

Section 5/Quarterfinals: Ohio State recruit Paetyn Levis scored two goals, including the game-winner at the 9:46 mark of the third period as Rogers beat Spring Lake Park/Coon Rapids 3-2. Teammate Kaitlynn Lloyd had a hand in all three goals, scoring one and assisting on two.

Section 7/Semifinals: Kayla Kasel netted her second goal 1:37 into overtime, giving Forest Lake a 5-4 victory over Grand Rapids/Greenway. ... Andrea Westgaard and Reilly Springman scored second-period goals less than two minutes apart as Class 2A, No. 6 Elk River/Zimmerman shut out Andover 2-0.

Boys' basketball

Orono 57, Marshall 45: Junior guard Max Bjorklund scored 20 points, leading the Class 3A, No. 5 Spartans past the No. 2 Tigers. Orono trailed 27-23 at halftime before outscoring the Tigers 34-18 following the intermission. The Spartans held Marshall to its lowest offensive output of the season.

Maple Grove 84, St. Michael-Albertville 57: Senior guard Brad Davison scored 31 points, including the 2,000th of his career, as the Class 4A, No. 2 Crimson cruised past the Knights. The University of Wisconsin commitment entered the game needing 27 points to reach the milestone. He is averaging 25.6 points on the season.
