Saturday in Stillwater: Ice castle reopens with ice cream social nearby

January 27, 2017 at 1:23AM

The Stillwater ice castle, above, which closed a week ago because of warmer weather, will reopen at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The attraction in Lowell Park will remain open into March if temperatures permit, promoters have said.

Paths made of 8 inches of crushed ice and snow will be restored for the reopening, said spokeswoman Melissa Smuzynski. The castle's walls — from 10 to 15 inches thick — were built to withstand the warmer weather.

Anyone who previously bought a ticket to the castle on a day when the attraction was closed may go online to info@icecastles.com to reschedule, Smuzynki said.

The Washington County Historical Society also will be hosting an ice cream social on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. in Lowell Park, just north of the ice castle. The event is free, but donations to the historical society will be accepted. For information, call 651-439-5956 or go to www.wchsmn.org/.
