Miguel Angel Sano, the young infielder from the Dominican Republic who the Twins signed for $3.15 million after battle with other teams, homered on the first pitch he saw for the Twins' Dominican Summer League team, He wound up 2-for-4 with a homer and triple in the game.

Sano and infielder Jorge Polanco - who signed for $750,000 - are from San Pedro de Macoris. They were in spring training at Fort Myers, Fla but were sent back to the Dominican Republic so they can play every day.

Twins GM Bill Smith said they pair could be brought back to play in the Gulf Coast League, or they might not return until Fall Instructional League begins.

When both were signed, the Twins announced that they would join German prospect Max Kepler on the GCL Twins, making it an interesting team. Sano just turned 17. Polanco is 16. Smith mentioned how young they were, and it got me thinking that homesickness - or youthfulness - might have factored into the decision. Playing games every day can't hurt, so I don't view the move as a bad one.

More on this next week.
