A Sandhill Crane, one of a pair raising two colts (chicks) in an Orono marsh, was photographed yesterday by Rebecca Field as it carried around, shook hard, and begin to eat a young Green Heron. Cranes are ominvorous, eating reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, seeds, and plant parts as well as birds. Fuzzy feathers on the heron's head and the color of its legs mark it as a chick.
