The annual birding spectacle of a lifetime is underway right now in Nebraska. Tens of thousands of Sandhill Cranes are staging in migration in the Platte River Valley, feeding and resting before continuing their flight north. They are easily seen along I-80 in the central part of the state, particularly near Kearney. Tens of thousands of Snow Geese also can be seen, along with a long list of other spring returnees. Kearney is 567 miles from Minnesota on a I-35 / I-80 route. Make overnight accommodations in advance. Kearney and nearby towns are popular places this time of year.
