Preseason Game 3: San Diego at Vikings

Bridgewater will play, but not Peterson

Noon today • U.S. Bank Stadium • TV: Ch. 9, Radio: 100.3-FM, 1130-AM

About the Vikings

A brand-new stadium will be christened by the Vikings in a preseason game against San Diego. The Vikings have a 10-1 preseason record under coach Mike Zimmer. … QB Teddy Bridgewater is expected to return after he was a late scratch last week in Seattle. … In his only exhibition action so far, Bridgewater completed six of seven passes for 92 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati earlier this month. … RB Adrian Peterson will not play, extending his preseason abstinence to five straight years without a carry. … A couple of Vikings are expected to make their preseason debuts in LB Eric Kendricks (hamstring) and G Brandon Fusco (shoulder) after both were held back by injuries this month. … OT Matt Kalil, CB Xavier Rhodes (hamstring) and DT Scott Crichton are not expected to play. … Second-year CB Trae Waynes filled in for Rhodes on the right side this week and is expected to start. … T.J. Clemmings is also expected to start at left tackle.

About the Chargers

QB Philip Rivers and the Chargers return to Minnesota after the Vikings trampled San Diego 31-14 in a Week 3 win last season at TCF Bank Stadium. … San Diego invested in its defense this offseason, signing former Seahawks DL Brandon Mebane and using the third overall pick on DE Joey Bosa from Ohio State. However, one hang-up remains as Bosa and the Chargers have yet to agree on a contract, which means he will not be playing Sunday and potentially many Sundays to come. … The Chargers also signed former Packers slot CB Casey Hayward and added former Colts S Dwight Lowery to take over for departed All-Pro S Eric Weddle. … They also brought back Ken Whisenhunt as offensive coordinator following two years as head coach in Tennessee.
