'My Thoughts Drift North'
What happens when the same image is recontextualized against an entirely different background, yet essentially remains the same at its core? In this new body of work, artist Nicholas A. Carroll creates what appears to be the head of an inside-out gray stone sculpture that's interrupted by a giant black, tentacle-like line invading the frame. Each work has a different depiction of a nature-inspired background: There's a tropical setting in one, presumably where the artist is working in Florida, and a cornfield in another, perhaps representing the artist's home in Minnesota. It's awkward being physically in two places yet always on the internet, and this weird conglomeration of imagery reminds viewers of that.
