March 4, 2011 at 5:26PM

Former Minnesota Congressman Martin Sabo was named Friday to the Minnesota Ballpark Authority, the public body that owns Target Field. Gov. Mark Dayton named Sabo, a longtime Democratic Congressman and former House Speaker in the Minnesota Legislature, to the ballpark authority along with Paul Williams, the deputy mayor of St. Paul. In making the announcement Friday, the governor called Sabo "an avid baseball fan" who was "well known in Washington for his time as player and coach for the Democrats in the annual Congressional charity baseball game." Target Field, the home of the Minnesota Twins, was financed in part by a countywide sales tax in Hennepin County and opened last year.
