A car left the road in southern Minnesota and rolled over, killing a former standout high school wrestler and injuring two other young men, authorities said Tuesday.

The crash happened about 7 p.m. Monday on southbound Hwy. 63 about three miles south of Zumbro Falls, according to the State Patrol, which suspects that alcohol played a role in the wreck.

Killed was Garrett G. Steiger, 20, of Rochester, Minn. He was not wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.

Steiger wrestled for Rochester John Marshall High School, making it to the state meet in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

He carried on the family's legacy of high school wrestling in Minnesota. Preceding him were his grandfather Gene Steiger (at Rochester High School) and his father, William Steiger (at John Marshall), said Marshall assistant wrestling coach Tom Giordano.

Taken to St. Marys Hospital in Rochester with noncritical injuries were Sebastijan Mileusnich, 20, and Maxwell M. Schafer, 19, both of Rochester.

Alcohol use by both was detected, according to the patrol. Alcohol use by Steiger hasn't be determined.

Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said that authorities have yet to determine who was driving because "both survivors deny being the driver. However, we do believe alcohol is involved regardless. ... We're pretty confident [that Steiger] was not the driver."
