Fans who want to get up close to the Ryder Cup action at Hazeltine National Golf Club can still catch a bargain for the practice rounds Thursday.
Thursday tickets are reselling for as little as $33. The official tournament starts Friday with play through Sunday. The most expensive day is Saturday, where tickets had an average resale price of $339.
Chris Leyden, an analyst at reseller SeatGeek, said the event is the third hottest ticket they've seen in Minnesota, behind the 2014 Major League Baseball All-Star Game and the Minnesota Vikings opening game at U.S. Bank Stadium vs. the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 18. The average resale prices for those events were $548 and $402, respectively.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the cheapest ticket to the first day of Ryder Cup competition Friday was $240. Saturday tickets could be found for $291 and Sunday entries were as low as $216, according to Leyden's analysis.
As is typical for events, the Ryder Cup prices will continue to drop as sellers look to get rid of tickets.
The Ryder Cup, a team contest between the best golfers in the United States and Europe, is played once every two years. It's only in the United States every four years, and this is its first time in Minnesota.
Still, demand for the tournament doesn't compare to the annual Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga. The 2016 Masters had an average resale ticket price of $1,375 for a single day.
Golfers are coming from all over the country. According to Leyden, 48 percent of the SeatGeek shoppers live in Minnesota. After Minnesota the top states are Illinois, Florida, Texas and Wisconsin.
