A man out for a run was struck by a car and killed near a Plymouth intersection last week, authorities said Tuesday.

Brian Lew, 57, was hit late Thursday afternoon near Vicksburg Lane and 26th Avenue, about 1 ½ miles from his home, according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office. He died a few hours later at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Lew "was not crossing in a crosswalk or at a controlled intersection," said police spokeswoman Tammy Ward.

The driver, identified as Merlene M. Johnson, 80, of Loretto, was not cited, Ward said.

Lew was a cardiologist affiliated with the University of Minnesota Physicians network.

Johnson was driving north on Vicksburg and hit Lew near 26th as he was crossing from her left, according to police.
