The DFL convention can be grueling, even for the most passionate and caffeinated.

Tom Rukavina supporter Dave Hart brought in a 1978 motorhome to serve as a refuge for volunteers who need to repair themselves from the convention battle. The motorhome is parked near an entrance to the convention center and has Rukavina campaign posters plastered on the side. Visitors can kick back on lawn chairs, listen to polka music and help themselves to a pulled pork sandwich or bratwurst with sauerkraut. There's coffee and pop, too. Hart wasn't sure how many people had been by, but he'd been through 90 cups of coffee by noon. "Tommy's a friend of everyone, even people who vote against him," said supporter Ted Fiskevold. "Tommy loves everyone." To honor that ethic, "anybody who comes by is welcome to a sandwich," Fiskevold said.
