Rounds of soaking rain will cause this first week in June to go down in historybooks as a wet one across the Northwest.Showers reaching the Northwest coastline Tuesday afternoon will precede asteadier rain event, set to wet the entire Pacific Northwest Tuesday night intoWednesday.
The rain threatens to slow down motorists along the Interstate 5 corridor fromSeattle to Medford. Water ponding on the interstate will heighten the danger ofvehicles hydroplaning, while localized downpours will reduce visibility.
Some rain Tuesday night into Wednesday will also spread over the Northwest'sinterior. This includes Spokane, Wash., and Pendleton, Ore.
The rain pushing eastward into the northern Plains on Thursday will not mean anend to the wet weather in the Northwest. Yet another storm is likely to drivemore rain into the Northwest later this week.
The rounds of rain are targeting the Northwest since the jet stream is drapedoverhead. The position of the jet stream will also prevent the blazing heat setto bake the Southwest and southern Plains from expanding northward.
