Roseville police said a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 51-year-old woman in a shopping center parking lot last week has turned himself in.

About 8:30 p.m. on May 18, police were called on a report of an assault at the parking lot of the Crossroads of Roseville Shopping Center, located at the intersection of Snelling Avenue and County Road B2.

According to the woman, she had left the mall and was putting items into the trunk of her car when she felt someone grab her buttocks and push her part way into the trunk. She said she then felt a man grind his groin into her from behind. The victim said the man stopped assaulting her when she started to kick him.

Roseville police say a Washington County Sheriff's chaplain saw the story online and recognized the suspect as one of his church parishioners. The chaplain called the man to church and showed him the story online. The suspect confessed to the Roseville incident, as well as others, and later also confessed to a Roseville police detective.

The suspect is being held at Ramsey County jail; charges are pending.
