Rosemount to look at pickleball demand

The city is considering modifying more of its tennis courts to accommodate the growing demand for places to play pickleball.

Some residents want to add more pickleball stripes to city tennis courts at Claret Park and set aside set exclusive pickleball times. The city's parks and recreation commission will consider the request Tuesday.

They suggested that time be set aside for pickleball from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday.

The game, which has grown in popularity in recent years in Minnesota, is similar to tennis but with a plastic ball, wooden paddles and modified rules.

Lines for two pickleball courts were added to the Claret Park courts in 2010.

The United States Tennis Association suggested that if more pickleball lines are added they be in a green color similar to the court surface so that they would not distract tennis players.
