Subaru has unveiled the solidly upscale fifth generation all-wheel-drive Legacy sedan for 2010. Providing a bolder design in a larger midsize package, the new Legacy now features a longer wheelbase and nearly four inches of additional rear seat legroom. The 2010 Legacy is built on a new platform that increases room and comfort while preserving the agility and fun-to-drive spirit of the previous model. The Legacy is 3.2 inches higher and 3.6 inches wider than the previous model, yielding significant gains in head, shoulder and hip room.

Available in 2.5i, 2.5GT and 3.6R trim levels, base power for the Legacy is generated by a revised 2.5L four-cylinder Boxer engine and teamed for the first time to a new six-speed manual transmission or an available new Lineartronic Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) with six-speed manual mode.

The CVT is standard in the Legacy 2.5i Limited. The new-generation Legacy 2.5GT gets a significant boost in performance from the revised 2.5L turbocharged/intercooled four-cylinder Boxer engine teamed to a new standard six-speed manual transmission.

As are all Subaru models, every Legacy is equipped with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. Subaru offers three different Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive systems in the 2010 Legacy line - Continuous, Active Torque Split and Variable Torque Distribution (VTD) - each tailored to the engine and type of transmission.

Inside the passenger cabin, the 2010 Legacy interior is not only more spacious than before, but takes another step up in refinement from an already-praised design. The sporty four-dial instrument panel is augmented in all Legacy models by a multi-information display with trip computer located in the center of the dashboard. Richer looking appointments and details abound, including a sporty three-spoke steering wheel (leather-wrapped in all but the base 2.5i and 3.6R). A new electronic parking brake - with an electronic Hill Holder System - eliminates the traditional parking brake handle, freeing up space in the center console.

Safety features include dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, dual side curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, brake assist, electronic brake force distribution, traction control, vehicle dynamics stability control, remote keyless entry, security system and tire pressure monitoring system, among other features. The 2.5GT adds a Bluetooth hands-free phone system, and optional safety features include fog lamps, navigation system and remote engine start system.
