5: Australian Open titles, one short of the men's record. He beat Marat Safin in 2004, Marcos Baghdatis in 2006, Fernando Gonzalez in 2007 and Andy Murray in 2010.

2012: The last time Federer had won a Grand Slam championship.

2010: The last time Federer had won the Australian Open.

2002: The last time a men's player won a Grand Slam singles title as a 17th seed. That was Pete Sampras at the U.S. Open. Sampras eventually retired without playing another match on tour.

12-23: All-time record against Rafael Nadal (3-6 in Grand Slam finals).

10-10: Record against Nadal on surfaces other than clay.

1: Men's players older than Federer (35) who have won a major singles title in the Open era. Ken Rosewall won the 1970 U.S. Open when he was approaching his 36th birthday, the 1971 Australian Open at 36 and the 1972 Australian Open at 37.
