A potent storm system will send snowflakes flying over the Rocky Mountains today. Accumulating snow will fall from Montana to northeastern Nevada to the mountains of Utah and Colorado.

The heaviest snow will pile up over 6 inches in the areas surrounding Yellowstone National Park in far northwestern Wyoming. Meanwhile, farther south, as much as half a foot of snow can be expected in the highest elevations of Colorado, Utah and northeastern Nevada.

By Thursday, the heaviest snowfall from the storm will accumulate in Wyoming and the mountains of Utah and Colorado.
