Home in Rochester on spring break, 21-year-old William "Harry" Hempy told his father he had gone for a run and would be late coming home for a family event.
A week later, according to police, there has been no trace of the University of Illinois senior who's within weeks of graduating. Break ended Monday, with the resumption of classes.
Authorities are turning to the public in their effort to locate Hempy as well as conducting searches and interviewing people who know him.
There's been "no sign anywhere" of him, Police Capt. John Sherwin said Wednesday of the student he described as "very smart."
Sherwin added that "all the options are on the table," but said there is no indication that a crime has been committed in connection with the disappearance.
He was last heard from about 5 p.m. March 25, when he called his father to say "he had gone for a run," the statement continued.
Hempy is white, 6 feet tall, 160 pounds, with hazel eyes and short brown hair. He is believed to have been wearing a black jacket, jeans and a new pair of Asics athletic shoes. Anyone with information about Hempy's whereabouts is urged to call police at 1-507-328-6800.
