Known more for their defense and goalkeeping this season, the Robbinsdale/Hopkins/Mound-Westonka Robins (8-0-1) broke out the offense in their first state tournament game.

Junior Mike Madson led the charge with five goals as the three-time defending champs defeated Minneapolis South 17-3.

Last year's runner-up, Dakota United (7-1-1), will meet the Robins in a semifinal matchup Saturday, after a thrilling 8-7 win on a goal by Grayson Nicolay with 1:15 left on the clock. Nicolay, an eighth-grader, had four goals in the game.

On the other side of the PI bracket, Anoka-Hennepin (6-4) upset the previously unbeaten South Suburban Flyers 2-1. The Mustangs will meet Park Center (5-3-1), which defeated St. Paul Humboldt 4-2, in the semifinals.

In the CI division, Mounds View/Irondale/Roseville (7-3) pulled off a 5-4 upset over the Southern Stars, who entered the game averaging 13.1 goals per game.

Anoka-Hennepin (10-0) remained unbeaten on the top of the CI bracket with an 11-4 win over Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville, while last season's runner-up, Park Center (8-2), and St. Cloud (9-1) also advanced.
