Delays are coming tonight for motorists driving on I-35W or I-35E.

Motorists who drive on I-35W in Minneapolis or Bloomington can expect delays Monday night into Tuesday as two projects construction project will block lanes.

Both won't commence until after this evening's rush hour, but they do have the potential to tangle traffic much like we saw a few weeks ago when a guard rail project on I-35W in Roseville led to a long backup.

Tonight's action on northbound 35W in Minneapolis will have the freeway will be reduced to two lanes between University Avenue and Hennepin Avenue from 8 to 10 p.m. At that time the freeway will go down to one lane until 6 a.m.

Down in Bloomington, both directions of the freeway will be reduced to one lane between 90th and 98th Street from 6 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday. That is related to bridge work being done at 94th Street.

In St. Paul, lane closures on I-35E will also affect drivers Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Beginning at 11 p.m. Monday, the left and center soutbound lanes will be closed between I-94 and Maryland Avenue. All southbound traffic will then stop for a short time at 1 a.m. Tuesday while workers remove an overhead sign. At 2:30 a.m., the right nortbound lane will be closed, with all northbound traffic stopping for a short time later while a crane is moved. All lanes are expected to reopen at 3:30 a.m.

One other project that might bring delays: Southbound Hwy. 100 will have the right lane closed from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. weekdays this week. MnDOT is doing maintenace work from W. 36th Street down to I-494, that's St. Louis Park to Bloomington.

Look for two lanes of westbound I-394 to be blocked from 10 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday from Penn Avenue to Hwy. 100. Yep, more road maintenance on the schedule.
