Rivers: Rasheed probably will retire

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers said center Rasheed Wallace is probably going to retire. Rivers said on WEEI-AM on Monday that Wallace told him before Game 7 of the NBA finals that he believed it was the last game of his career. Wallace has two years left on the contract he signed with the Celtics last summer. The 35-year-old would finish with 15,860 points and 7,321 rebounds in a 15-year career. He played with four teams, winning the NBA title with the Pistons in 2004.

AEG to pay for damaged taxi

Staples Center owner AEG plans to give $10,000 to the driver of a taxi cab that was attacked by a mob and burned last week in Los Angeles after the Lakers won their 16th NBA championship.

The attack on the cab was part of a spree of violence and vandalism Thursday night following the Lakers' victory over the Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the championship series.

In other NBA news: The Warriors traded the 34th overall pick to Portland for the 44th pick and cash considerations. ... A minor league baseball team, the Lake Erie Crushers, plan to offer LeBron James a maximum contract under Frontier League rules on "Keep LBJ in the C-L-E Night" next week. The team said the contract is worth $1,600 a month and will include a host family so the NBA superstar won't have the "stress of a potential commute" from the Akron." Also available will be a luxury suite. ... The Cavaliers have slightly changed their team colors. The Cavs have deepened the original wine and brightened the original gold colors the team used exclusively from 1970-83.

Panthers Smith breaks arm again Panthers receiver Steve Smith will miss the start of training camp because he broke his left forearm playing a game of flag football with kids. ... The Los Angeles County district attorney's office announced that it has charged former Bengals running back Corey Dillon with two misdemeanors in connection with his arrest in April on suspicion of drunken driving. ... The brother of former NFL star William Perry says the "Fridge" has some hearing loss but is improving from a condition in which the body's immune system attacks nerves. Fellow NFL standout Michael Dean Perry said his 47-year-old brother has regained most of his strength and is back up to about 330 pounds as he recovers in his South Carolina home. ... The Saints released veteran defensive end Bobby McCray, abruptly parting ways with a playoff starter who helped New Orleans capture its first Super Bowl title.

College athletics: Connecticut forward Maya Moore and Penn State outside hitter Megan Hodge were named winners of the Honda-Broderick Cup, given annually to the nation's top female college athlete. Iowa State track and field star Lisa Koll was the other finalist.

College football: Receiver Duron Carter, son of former Viking Cris Carter, left Ohio State and enrolled at a community college in Kansas. Carter has had academic problems. ... An Ohio State football recruit was shot and wounded twice in two months. Jamel Turner, 18, was left in critical condition by a shooting early Saturday in Youngstown. The case apparently was unrelated to a drive-by shooting April 16, when Turner was wounded.

Auto racing: Daytona's 400-mile Cup race July 3 will be the first race ever broadcast in 3-D.

Golf: Retief Goosen won five skins worth $75,000, while Mike Weir was shut out the first day of the Telus Skins Game. Ian Poulter captured one skin worth $15,000 and Camilo Villegas and veteran Fred Couples were shut out.
