RICK ADELMAN'S JOURNEY TO MINNESOTA

1968: Drafted in the seventh round by the San Diego Rockets out of Loyola Marymount.

1968-1975: His NBA career included stints with the Rockets, the expansion Portland Trail Blazers, the Chicago Bulls, the New Orleans Jazz and the Kansas City-Omaha Kings.

1977-83: Coached Chemeketa Community College in Portland, Ore.

1983-89: Assistant coach of the Portland Trail Blazers under Jack Ramsay and Mike Schuler.

1989-94: Took over as head coach at Portland when Schuler was fired in February 1989. Portland went to the NBA Finals in 1990 (losing to Detroit) and 1992 (losing to Chicago).

1995-97: Head coach, Golden State Warriors.

1999-2006: Head coach, Sacramento Kings.

2007-2011: Head coach, Houston Rockets.

Sept. 13, 2011: Hired to coach Timberwolves.

The résumé: His career record is 945-616 -- eighth-most victories and 15th-most losses in NBA coaching history. His won-lost percentage (.605) is ninth all-time among coaches with 500 games.
