Richfield voters will have an Election Day perk that's not available to anyone else in Minnesota: They can go online and find out the wait time at their polling location.
Richfield is the first Minnesota city to offer real-time updates on voting wait times, said Theresa Schyma, deputy city clerk.
City residents can get the updates at www.ci.richfield.mn.us on Tuesday. After entering their address, they can find their polling place, a map showing the location, a sample ballot and the current wait time.
"So much of Election Day is directed by state law, but there are always ways to try and improve the voter experience," Schyma said. "We want Richfield voters to know that we are trying to enhance their Election Day experience."
Schyma noted that the wait-time information will also help city officials plan future elections.
The city will have election staff monitoring wait times throughout Election Day.
All eligible voters will be able to cast a ballot as long as they're in line at the correct polling place by 8 p.m.
