Late March has two major restaurant openings on the horizon.

Monday morning, bright and early at 6:30 a.m., is when baker Solveig Tofte (pictured above, in a Star Tribune file photo) plans to kick open the doors at her Sun Street Breads, at 46th St. and Nicollet Av. S. in Minneapolis.

The former head baker of the Turtle Bread Co. has struck out on her own, serving breakfast and lunch and promising a full range of breads and sweets. The shop is a bricks-and-mortar expansion of the fantastic stand Tofte operated at the Kingfield Farmers Market, which is located just a few blocks north of the cafe. Fruit-filled turnovers (and bacon-green onion biscuits), here I come.

March 28 is the debut date for Sopranos Italian Kitchen. Chef J.P. Samuelson (his distinguished resume includes Solera, D'Amico Cucina, Bobino and his own jP American Bistro) is returning to his Italian roots, featuring fresh pastas and an antipasti bar and serving lunch, dinner and a late-night bar menu.

The restaurant is located in the Shoppes at West End, in the spacious former home of the short-lived Ringo. It's located next door to Crave, which is no coincidence, as Sopranos falls under the ownership umbrella known as Kaskaid Hospitality, the parent company of Crave and newcomer Urban Eatery, which opened a few weeks ago in the former View Restaurant space in the Calhoun Beach Club in Minneapolis.
