Repossessed car returns home

Whistleblower update: Mike August finally gets the title to the Jeep Liberty he bought in December 2008

February 16, 2010 at 12:10AM

Mike August of Medina waited more than a month for someone to explain why his 2007 Jeep Liberty was repossessed on New Year's Eve, even though he didn't owe any money on it. After Whistleblower reported on the situation, the repo man brought the car back.

Even though he had paid $12,000 for the Jeep in December 2008, he never received the title. The dealer, Delano Dodge Chrysler Jeep, went out of business last year. The vehicle was registered to August, but Chrysler Financial held on to the title because of a dispute with the dealership. August finally got the car and the title last week. He also got a box with a GPS and other items that had been in the car.

"The car looked as good as it did when it left," August said Monday.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
