A man fatally shot his brother at a home in St. Paul early Wednesday afternoon, according to police emergency dispatch audio.

The shooting took place in the 1000 block of E. 3rd Street in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood.

A dispatcher was heard on the audio saying that a "male got on the phone and said he shot his brother in self-defense."

The man with the gun told authorities that he put the gun behind a chair ahead of officers arriving.

Police spokesman Steve Linders said the man was shot inside the home and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

"It looks like a family dispute preceded the shooting," he said.

Linders said the man who opened fire then called 911, and responding officers took him to police headquarters, where he was being interviewed. No further information was available late Wednesday.

The names of the men have yet to be released.
