Rep. Tony Cornish, R-Vernon Center, has made a decision about whether to challenge Rep. Tim Walz and will make an announcement outside of the Minnesota House chambers Wednesday morning, according to a news release.
Cornish, in his seventh term and chairman of the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy and Finance Committee, served 32 years as a police officer before retiring.
He is known as one of the Legislature's strongest gun rights advocates.
Walz has represented Minnesota's First District since winning election in 2006.
Blue Earth businessman Jim Hagedorn has already announced another run against Walz after losing to him in 2014.
