A 37-year-old Renville County man was killed Thursday afternoon when his car ran into a ditch on Hwy. 67 in Yellow Medicine.
Eric W. Mahlum, of Sacred Heart, a tiny town about 20 miles from Montevideo, was headed south on Hwy. 67 when his sedan swerved off the road to the right. Mahlum overcorrected, swinging left across two lanes of traffic and into a ditch, according to the State Patrol. His vehicle hit two trees and landed on its side.
Mahlum was wearing his seat belt, but the air bags failed to deploy. He died at the scene.
