THE BUZZ

CLICK PICK Deadspin.com recently completed its "Better Know An Umpire" series, which had features on all MLB umps. As a bonus, the site put together short clips of every ump's called strike three style. It's definitely worth a look -- mesmerizing in its own way.

star gazing When the Wolves traded Brandon Roy for Randy Foye on draft night in 2006, they must have known how this would all work out: That six years later, they would bring Roy back ... and in the mean time, they would be able to trade Foye as part of a package for the draft pick that became Ricky Rubio. All part of the master plan.

MINNESOTA SPORTS FANS HAVE WAITED A LONG TIME FOR A DAY LIKE WEDNESDAY -- SOME OF US OUR ENTIRE LIVES.

WE'VE BEGGED FOR AN OWNER WHO WAS WILLING TO HAVE THE AUDACITY TO BE CONSIDERED A FAN FIRST, AND NOW WE'VE GOT IT. SURE THE WILFS HAVE SHOWN DEEP POCKETS WITH THE VIKINGS, BUT EVEN THEY HAVEN'T DONE SOMETHING LIKE WHAT WILD OWNER (AND NOW CLEARLY NO. 1 FAN) CRAIG LEIPOLD HAS ACCOMPLISHED. THANK YOU FOR HEARING US, SIR. WE WILL HOLD UP OUR END AND SEE YOU AT THE 'X' NEXT SEASON.

Steve Meendering, Plymouth Fond Millers memoriesThe Twins recently wore replicas of the Minneapolis Millers baseball team, and it brought to mind fond boyhood memories: going early to Nicollet Park and almost never being able to get a baseball while standing outside on Nicollet Avenue during batting practice (I was too small against the older boys) or going inside close to the field during pregame warmups. One day I managed to be standing on the sideline just outside the box seats when a Miller player came walking along with a ball in his glove. I said, "You don't want that baseball!" He smiled and he, Marv Grissom the pitcher (who went on to an extended major league career), flipped me, the 12-year-old hero worshipper, the ball. For years teams limited baseballs going to the fans and the way they're given away now amazes me.

The Polars, 10-0 and headed to a Class 3A quarterfinal Saturday, play high-flying offense, fitting for a team whose practices are observed by an eagle.
