Buffeted by wind shear in its high-level clouds, Fred weakened markedly, becoming a mere shadow of its former self on Saturday. The future for Fred isan unfavorable one with respect to any meaningful strengthening for at least afew days to come.A strong Azores high spread out to the north of Fred will steer the remnantsof the tropical weather system towards the west and the northwest overwide-open seas through at least early week.
Lessening of the hostile wind shear could allow for some reinvigoration ofthe remnants of Fred over open seas later in the week, although the odds ofthis would seem to be low at this time.
