MILWAUKEE — Relatively few people are taking advantage of HIV testing in Milwaukee despite data showing that the disease remains a threat.
At a testing event sponsored by more than 30 community health agencies Saturday, several organizers had one word to describe the day: slow.
Music, food and games brought many families to North Division High School, where 31 were tested Saturday. But last year, almost 90 people were tested at the event.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel also reports (http://bit.ly/11TVCEX ) that at one pharmacy where 17 people were tested on National HIV Testing Day last year, no more than two people showed up Thursday.
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says six out of 10 of the young people infected with HIV don't know they have it.
