Reinforcing Cold Shot Eyes the Northeast

October 29, 2010 at 7:25PM

After enduring the arrival of noticeably colder air Friday, many residents ofthe Northeast may shiver when they hear that an even chillier shot of air willsoon grip the region. The next wave of chilly air will sweep across the Northeast Sunday into Mondayfollowing the passage of a cold front. Further adding to the chill will bebrisk winds ushering in the cold air.

Chilly air will fully engulf the Northeast by the time trick or treating getsunderway Sunday night. So you may want to put an extra layer of clothingunderneath your or your children's costume.

A cold evening for trick or treating is a stark contrast to the mild airresidents along the Interstate 95 corridor enjoyed last Halloween.

Once the chilly air is firmly in place, temperatures Monday will be held 5 to10 degrees below highs that are typical for this time of year.

For Boston, Monday's chill will prevent temperatures from warming out of the40s for the first time since April. Philadelphia will crack the 50-degree mark, but only by a couple of degrees.

Prior to the upcoming cold shot, this weekend will actually start on a fairlyseasonable note. With northern New England being the exception, temperaturesSaturday will rise to values that are typical for late October.

However, once chilly air arrives Sunday into Monday, it will remain in placewell into next week. In fact, there are signs that even colder air will blastinto the Northeast later next week.
