Record-Smashing Rainfall Swamped the U.K. Last Month

Highest rainfall on record was registered in the United Kingdom for themonth of November.According to the nation's weather service, the Met Office, monthly rainfallaveraged across the U.K. was 217.4 mm (8.56 inches). The new high bested the193.6 mm (7.62 inches) that was observed back in 1951.

Highest measured rainfall at any given location was that of Shap, Cumbria,where 621.4 mm (24.5 inches) was collected throughout November.

November's record-smashing rainfall, together with wet weather earlier inthe year, was the primary trigger for many outbreaks of flooding across theU.K.
