Recipe: Plum-nectarine crunch

PLUM-NECTARINE CRUNCH

Serves 6 to 8.

• Butter for baking dish

• 1 lb. plums, pitted and sliced (about 6 plums)

• 1 lb. nectarines, pitted, peeled and sliced (about 3 nectarines)

• 1/4 c. packed brown sugar

• 1 tsp. ground cinnamon

• 1 c. plus 1 tbsp. flour, divided

• 1 c. granulated sugar

• 1 tsp. baking powder

• 1/2 tsp. salt

• 1/2 tsp. freshly ground nutmeg

• 1 egg, well-beaten

• 1/4 c. melted butter

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Generously butter bottom and sides of an 8- by 8-inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, combine plums, nectarines, brown sugar, cinnamon and 1 tablespoon flour. Transfer mixture to prepared baking dish.

In a medium bowl, combine remaining 1 cup flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and egg and stir until crumbly. Sprinkle flour-sugar mixture over fruit. Drizzle with melted butter. Bake until top is brown, about 40 minutes. Remove from oven to a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
