A storm system developing over the Rockies will bring a very rare snowstorm toparts of the Deep South Friday. As the low pressure system dives southeastwardtoward the northern Gulf of Mexico, an unseasonably cold air mass will surgesouthward across Texas. Precipitation from the storm system will move into thecolder air, and snow will spread eastward across the state.Snowflakes will be flying through the air as far south as San Antonio andHouston. There could even be enough snow for a light accumulation on grassy andelevated surfaces in the Interstate 10 corridor. Although no accumulation isexpected farther south, a few snowflakes could mix in with the chilly rain allthe way down to Corpus Christi.

Once the storm passes Texas, it will bring snow to parts of northern Louisiana, central Mississippi, and northern Alabama. Friday afternoon into Friday night, the ground will be whitened by snow in places like Shreveport, Jackson, andMontgomery.
