A man who posed as a police detective while kidnapping and raping a woman, then scrubbing her with a bleachlike solution, was sentenced Tuesday to 27 years in prison.
Gideon C. Arrington II, 36, had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges that he accosted the woman last November in a parking lot near Fridley City Hall, forced her into a vehicle, took her to a garage and repeatedly raped her.
Arrington appeared Tuesday in Anoka County District Court, where Judge Dyanna Street found aggravating factors, including the particular cruelty of the attack, justified a sentence that exceeded state guidelines. His criminal history includes serving two years in prison for a 2009 robbery in Brooklyn Park.
Prosecutors said they found his DNA in semen recovered from the woman's body during a physical exam. They planned to call the 32-year-old victim and numerous witnesses to testify if the case went to trial.
Arrington lured his victim by pretending he was a detective, handcuffed her and bound her in duct tape. He also made the blindfolded woman bathe in a bleach solution after each sexual assault. He then washed her clothes. When Arrington finally removed the duct tape and released the woman, he gave her $2, told her to take a bus and said he would kill her if she reported the attack.
