Lynx training camp is set to open May 5, and it will feature several new faces thanks to key departures and five new draft picks. Of particular note: For the first time in 15 years, including the last nine in Minnesota, Lindsay Whalen isn't gearing up right now for a WNBA season.

She was asked Thursday if it's strange not getting ready for camp.

"I'm not as sore, so that's nice. I've kind of been busy with some other things I've been doing," Whalen deadpanned, referring to her job as the Gophers women's basketball coach.

Indeed, even with the Gophers season ending last month there is plenty going on. Whalen said the team banquet was slated for Thursday night. She will have a little more down time in the coming months and plans to put her Lynx season tickets to good use.

"I'll be there as a fan to support them and cheer on my teammates," Whalen said.
