RandBall's Week 14 Fantasy Football Challenge

December 10, 2015 at 1:54AM

Week 14 of the Page 2 Fantasy Football Challenge is upon us. Each week, a guest picker chooses a QB, RB and WR. The only players off-limits are those selected by the previous week's guest picker. The guest — Jarrod Mauren, a Sauk Rapids native who describes himself as, "Just another Vikings/Twins/Wolves/Gophers fan whose heart gets broken every year" — goes against the Star Tribune's Michael Rand, who is not allowed to pick anyone projected to score in the top 10 by NFL.com experts at their respective positions:

Jarrod Mauren's WEEK 14 FANTASY PICKS

QB: Cam Newton, Panthers

NFL.com QB projection: No. 1

Matchup: Falcons

Newton faces a bad Atlanta defense and he's playing at home. He's determined to go undefeated and win the MVP and will keep putting up big numbers in the process.

RB: Thomas Rawls, Seahawks

(The Minnesota Star Tribune)

NFL.com RB projection: No. 22

Matchup: Ravens

Seattle's defense should dominate Matt Schaub and Co., which means the Ravens will get down early, letting Rawls get a lot of work in.

WR: Antonio Brown, Steelers

NFL.com WR projection: No. 5

Matchup: Bengals

This should be a high-scoring game and Big Ben loves throwing to him. Brown will continue his record-setting pace.

MICHAEL RAND's WEEK 14 FANTASY PICKS

QB: Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers

NFL.com QB projection: No. 15

Matchup: Bengals

I lost last week because of Aaron Rodgers' Hail Mary, so I'm picking angry this week. Sorry, Jarrod, that I have to take this out on you. If your receiver, Antonio Brown, is going to have a big game, then his QB is, too. So let's go with that strategy and sink or swim together.

RB: Jonathan Stewart, Panthers

(The Minnesota Star Tribune)

NFL.com RB projection: No. 18

Matchup: Falcons

If this matchup goes how I hope it will go, Cam Newton's throws will draw four separate pass interference penalties in the end zone, leading to four short TD runs for Stewart.

WR: Doug Baldwin, Seahawks

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin (89) scored a touch down over Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antone Exum (32) in the third quarter Sunday December 6, 2015 in Minneapolis, MN. ] The Minnesota Vikings loss 38-7 to the Seattle Seahawks at TCF Bank Stadium. NFL.com WR projection: No. 35

Matchup: Ravens

I'm going off the grid and onto the second page of projected wide receivers to grab Baldwin. He's been on a roll lately (five TDs in his last two games), and it continues vs. Baltimore.

SCOREBOARD WEEK 13 FANTASY RECAP (USING NFL.COM DEFAULT SCORING METHOD)

Winner: Trevor Campbell — Aaron Rodgers (25.6), LeSean McCoy (11.2), Mike Evans (12.1). Total: 48.7.

Loser: Michael Rand — Blaine Gabbert (25.3), Thomas Rawls (16.3), Stefon Diggs (1.6). Total: 43.2.

Overall standings: Guest pickers 11-2.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
