Police responding to a phone call from a worried daughter found a Ramsey couple shot to death Tuesday in an apparent-murder suicide.

Authorities identified the couple as Mitchell Fine, 65, and his wife, Caron Fine, 67.

Cmdr. Paul Sommer of the Anoka County Sheriff's Office said that on Monday, the Fines had been served with a notice saying they faced eviction from their home on the 8500 block of 176th Lane NW in Ramsey. The next morning, their adult daughter opened an e-mail from her father that authorities said had suicidal overtones.

She called police and asked them to check on the couple. Officers went to the Ramsey home and found the couple shot to death in their bedroom in the apparent murder-suicide. It appeared Caron Fine died first, authorities said. Two guns were recovered in the bedroom.

Police also found that nine cats had been shot and killed inside and outside the house.

No suspects are being sought, and the general public has no safety concerns related to the case, Sommer said.

The Fines lived in the house for at least a dozen years. They were currently renting the home, which was facing foreclosure, said Sommer.

When officers arrived at the house, it was secure and there were no new foot tracks in the snow or vehicle tracks in the driveway, he said. Ramsey Police Chief Jim Way said police hadn't been to the house previously on any criminal or domestic related calls.

Attempts to reach various relatives were unsuccessful Wednesday.
