Have you ever wanted a better understanding of what goes on behind the scenes of law enforcement? The Ramsey County Sheriff's Office is hosting a three-week Citizens Acadeny in January 2016.

The course begins Tuesday, Jan. 12 and continues through Thursday, Jan. 28. Sessions will be held each Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The course is designed to give citizens a better understanding of the duties, responsibilities, equipment, training and facilities of the sheriff's office. Topics will include patrol procedures, K-9, criminal investigations, crime scene processing, narcotics, crime prevention and the county's 911 communications center.

The academy will also include discussions about court orders, civil process, criminal history and warrants. In addition to classroom training, participants will go on tours of the patrol station, the adult detention center and other facilities.

There is no cost to the program. Participants are asked to commit to attend all six sessions. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion and will also receive volunteer opportunities to continue their partnership with law enforcement.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, pass a criminal history background check and be available to attend all of the sessions. Academy size is limited. For an application or additional information, call 651-266-7332.

Applications must be received by Tuesday, December 15, 2015.
